Welcome to How To Tuesdays. I'm going to walk you through some tips and tricks on flower pressing and (potentially) making some pressed flower art. I am starting with pulling a bunch of different varieties of flowers from my garden. This is to show you the different densities of each flower. The densities are really important to consider when you are flower pressing because you're not going to press all flowers the same.
Typical garden flowers like cosmos and pansies, irises, or fruit tree blossoms are very, very simple. You're just going to remove the stem, press them flat down, and that's your layer. But when you move into a more moisture dense flower such as a peony or dahlia, you want to make sure you are gutting the inside. This is going to take away a lot of the moisture content so that your press isn't producing a bunch of mould while trying to pull all that moisture out.
So, in this video you'll see me pull many of the petals out that there's only one or two petal layers left. The problem with this is that you are going to take a lot of the best colours out, so I'll show you how I remedy that afterwards too. Enjoy the video!
